Shalakya Tantra is one among the eight branches of Ayurveda.
Shalakya Tantra is a special branch which deals with the diseases of eye, ear, nose, throat and diseases pertaining to Head.
At Academic level, the department of Shalakya Tantra provides specialized training in both theoretical and practical aspects. Students learn ancient treatment methods like Kriyakalpa (Eye procedures) and ENT procedures along with modern diagnostic tools and surgical techniques.
At Hospital level, We treat many Eye diseases like Refractive errors, conjunctivitis, dry eye, Diabetic retinopathy and also degenerative ocular disorders like Retinitis Pigmentosa and ARMD. For the Eye disease management we do special treatment procedures called Netra Kriyakalpas. These local therapies are unique and each does their function in a different way. Those are SEKA, ASCHYOTANA, TARPANA, PUTAPAKA, PINDI, BIDALAKA AND ANJANA.
Aschyotana is aadya upakrama where the medicated drops are instilled to eyes. Seka is the procedure of pouring thin stream of medicated liquid slowly on closed eye for a specified time period.
In Tarpana medicated ghee is kept over eyes for a specific period of time through a specially prepared border over the eye.
Putapaka is same as that of Tarpana but method of preparation of Medicine and ingredients are different.
Anjana (HERBAL COLLYRIUM) is a popular method of applying medicinal paste into the inner side of the lower lid either by finger tip or with the help of the applicator.
Pindi - The Aushada kalka is made into pindi form and kept in Vastra and tied in eyes.
Bidalaka is application of medicinal paste over the eyelids, avoiding the area of eyelashes.
The Benefits of these kriyakalpa procedures are:
- Strengthens the nerves & muscles of Eyes.
- Cools, lubricates & revitalizes the eye.
- Reduces itching , Redness and dryness of eyes.
We also teach Eye Exercises to both children and adults. This helps to reduce the Refractive errors by toning up of eye muscles and also help for relaxation of the eyes.
