The Samhita & Siddhanta Department forms the foundation of Ayurveda, focusing on classical texts like Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, Ashtanga Hridaya and other Samhitas. It emphasizes core principles of Ayurveda and their application in health and disease. The department also trains in Sanskrit interpretation of the classical texts and critical analysis of commentaries. Research methodology, history of Ayurveda, and literary studies are also integral parts of this branch. Overall, it serves as the theoretical backbone for all Ayurvedic specialties

Department : Samhita and Siddhanta

It also known as department of Basic principles and fundamentals of Ayurveda. This is the most important department which is concerned with the basics of Ayurveda.

The Ayurveda science dates back to about 5000 BC so it is important to know the basics, background and framework of Ayurveda. Subject dealt in this department helps in achieving it. Hence in all the professional years there will be a subjects concerned with this department.

These subjects cover the original treatises, history and philosophy of Ayurveda and the Samskruta.

In the under graduation curriculum students will be taught subjects like Padartha vijnana, Samskruta, and important treatises of Ayurveda i.e.,Charaka Samhita and Ashtanga hridaya Samhita.

Padharta vijnana also known as Quantum physics and fundamentals of Ayurveda, learning which enables the students understand about contemporary sciences that were there during the time of composition of Ayurveda, background and philosophy of Ayurveda.

Ayurveda Itihasa – gives them knowledge about the framework of Ayurveda, origin and composition of Ayurveda, various texts, their Authors, their time period, native, contents and the main purpose of them.

Main treatises are taught under the subject called Samhita Adhyayana. For all the phases, various sections from these treatises are divided and taught.

Sanskrit language which is the base of most of the Ayurveda texts becomes utmost important to be learnt; Hence, in the first professional year it will be taught in curriculum. Under the same, various grammatical aspects literature aspects, interpretation and application of technical terms from the samithas will be taught .

Non lecture hours will be there wherein student will be allocated with various activities to get hold of the literature easily and thoroughly. Students will be trained how to interpret each slokas and phrases, enabling them to understand the concepts near to the authors point of view and relay on original text than the translated text.

During non lecture hours students will be made to decode various grammatical aspects of the slokas from samhitas and explicate the content thoroughly. Regular Pathana and parayana of samhitas will be done which ease students for pronouncing and learning the Samhita. Students will also be trained to text clinically apply based on literatures and capacitate them to apply the diagnostic method and management of various diseases for current time. Students are also academically trained by allocating seminars, quiz, Tadvidya sambhasha, shloka reciting competitions and various other activities which makes students well versed with the subjects.

The department is well equipped with the library comprising various Samhitas, shabda koshas nighantu etc which are accessible to our student. Also there is a museum equipped with 3D models and charts which depicts the concepts of Ayurveda and various specimen mentioned in the text are also available.

This department is the base for all the subjects and have the foundation of all the concepts of Ayurveda

As one of the quotations in Charaka says –

यदिहास्ति तदन्यत्र यन्नेहास्ति न तत्क्वचित्| (Cha.Si. 12/54 )

“That which is enclosed here is present everywhere and that which is excluded in this is nowhere”

Thus proper implication of this department helps in achieving the knowledge of Ayurveda intensively.
